We received a call from a customer who has a Jacuzzi J235 who stated that their Hot Tub was losing water. Over the phone they said that the leak used to manageable only requiring topping up the water every week or two. Now, the issue has worsened, and the hot tub requires filling daily.
Leaks can sometimes feel quite scary or maybe overwhelming to the customer as they don’t know where its leaking from, can it be fixed, how much will it cost. We are here to help with that!
On Arrival the Customer had already removed the cabinet to expose the inner workings of the hot tub, this isn’t required as it is a job that we will do however the customer wanted to have a look to see if it could be fixed before calling us out.
As a Hot Tub Engineer, it was rather obvious to see where the leak was coming from as there was visible signs of water dripping, and white residue left behind by old water etc.
As the Hot Tub had been refilled prior to my arrival, I was able to drain the Hot Tub into my reservoir and work on the spa within 15 minutes of being on site. This water in the reservoir will be pumped back into the spa once the repair is complete, to assess whether the repair was successful or not.
Upon closer inspection it turned out that the heater seals had perished, which meant that the seal to the heater flange was defective therefore leaking out. Easy enough repair! Now, when removing the heater unions, I noticed that one of the screws for the ‘Split Union’ was just spinning in its thread and not pulling two together. This would also mean that when tightened up to the flange it wouldn’t create a uniform seal and therefore be defective. So not only did I replace the heater seals, I also replaced a heater union as well to ensure an appropriate seal would take place. I explained to the customer the importance of servicing their hot tub as this is a key part of what we look at during a service, the integrity of the seals on the pumps and heater.
All in all, a simple repair for something that may have felt overwhelming for our customer. Back up and running within 1 hour. This call out was in Cheadle, Staffordshire.
